Throughout late 2018 and early 2019, May Leitz went through periods of both euphoria and turmoil that led to the biggest surge of creativity in her career. Lovepop is a product of a life of relationships, both healthy and abusive, leaving her to parse out what it meant to be in love. The album speaks to the loss and confusion of being a trans woman in a world of people that fetishize and reject trans people. Lovepop is a document of angry and fear as well as safety and finally, love.
